Richmond, VA, February 22, 2012 – Observed in March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month was instituted to help raise awareness of colorectal cancer and encourage those 50 and older as well as those in high risk groups to get a regular colonoscopy screening. Colorectal cancer is a highly treatable cancer and it is estimated that regular screenings could prevent up to 60% of the deaths attributed to this type of cancer. It is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men.
